  Chapter Twenty-Seven

  Tyler

There was screaming and angry voices.

"I'm her sister! You let me through now, Leon!" A familiar voice cried.

"Kimmy, please calm down. She hasn't woken up yet. She just got out of surgery," a stern voice spoke.

"But, why can't I see her?!" Kimmy begged. Her voice was full of despair.

Glancing over at Logan and Jake we quickened our pace down the hallway toward Kimmy's angry screams.

Rounding the corner I smiled slightly seeing my five foot five inch tall baby sister up in Leon's face her finger inches from his nose.

"You better move right this second, Leon," she threatened. Alex stood behind her on crutches looking a bit helpless to rein Kimmy in.

"Ay, what are ya'll doing screaming in the hallway? There are people around," Jake barked trying to sound serious but it was impossible to take him seriously. He always seemed to tacked sex innuendos to everything.

"Jake tell him to move. He won't let me see her," Kimmy cried. Tears streaming down her cheeks. Something stirred in my stomach. Kimmy hardly ever cried.

"What's going on?" Jake asked. "Why is Ever in the hospital anyways? She trip over something again?"

"Eien shot her!" Kimmy screeched. "He shot her nine times! She has been in surgery all night! Why has no one told you?"

I felt as if a sledge hammer hit me in the chest. I have been beaten with bats, chains, even brass knuckles, but nothing has ever hit me this hard.

  Even Jake was speechless.

"Move," Jake ordered not hesitating to push Leon out of the way. Leon looked haggard, dark circles under his eyes. He was worn out. Logan stopped to talk with him as Jake, Kimmy and I stepped into the room.

"Oh Tyler," Kimmy sobbed wrapping her arms around my waist hiding her face into my chest. Pulling her out of the way I let Alex in so he could sit.

Tears were now forming in my eyes as I looked at Ever. It was like when I saw Kimmy in the hospital bed two weeks ago all over. Another baby sister we can't seem to protect. Ever has been through hell and back more than any of us.

Jake scrubbed his face trying to hide his own tears. Kimmy hiccupped, squeezing her tighter I rested my chin on her head.

"This is why I didn't want Kimmy to see her," Leon muttered. Logan went to her bedside to stroke her hair and adjust her oxygen tube. Her right wrist was in a cast her left had a bandage wrapped around her upper arm to her shoulder, two spots with red seeping out some.

She was very pale and so sickly looking. Purple rings hung under her eye lids. The only signs of life were her even breathing and the constant beeping of her heart monitor. Kneeling over her Jake kissed her fore head then placed his head to hers whispering something to her.

"Did..." Jake cleared his throat straightening up. "Did you kill that son of a bitch?" he demanded there was a fire in his eyes that was very unlike Jake.

Leon shook his head. "He ran off then ended up turning himself in this morning."

"Turned himself in?" Alex echoed in a hollow voice not taking his eyes from Ever's seemingly lifeless body.

"I don't understand it either. Maybe to stay away from us but we can take care of him easier in there."

"Does Oliver know yet?" Logan questioned pulling his eye brows together in thought.

"I was waiting till we had Eien. I was supposed to watch her. He told me not to..." Leon looked so beside himself with guilt.

Jake went to him clapping him on the back. "I'll talk to him," he reassured leaving. His face completely void of emotion now.

"What did the doctor say?" Kimmy choked out lifting her blood shot eyes to look at Leon.

"He missed her heart. He came very close though," Leon ran his hand through his hair and let out a breath.

"Two went through her left arm and shoulder. Two in her hip, two in her stomach, the one to the chest and one to her side. That one just barely grazed her."

"Thank goodness he was a dumbass," Kimmy muttered softly.

"He was drunk and apparently had cocaine in his system. That's what I found out from our source in the station," Leon walked around the bed slumping into a chair.

"How much?" Alex asked wide eyed.

  "They're thinking about .7 grams. It's a wonder he's even breathing."

"He won't be for long when Oliver gets a hold of him," Logan whispered rubbing Ever's right shoulder softly. The only spot really you could touch.

"W..will she be okay?" Kimmy asked, her voice breaking again.

  "We'll have to see..."

  Oliver

Punching the wall I felt my knuckles split open again but I ignored it punching the wall over and over again I yelled angrily and cursed everything under the sun. Resting my head on the wall I leaned into it and slide to the ground. Never in my life do I ever remember crying. Even in my earliest memories. I remember being a small child. I vaguely remember my mother, but not crying, until now.

Hot tears slide down my face. My Ever, my baby girl. She was on her death bed and I can't even hold her. I can't even tell her it will be ok, or kiss her. What if I never see her bright beautiful eyes again? Or hear her sweet voice? The last memory I have of her was when she came to see me before the funerals. What if that is the last memory I will ever have of her?

I can't imagine a life without that girl in it. I know that if any of my gang or enemies seen me now it would be bad but I don't give a fuck. I'll fight anyone in a heartbeat if they have a problem with it. That's what I need. I need to beat the hell out of someone. Namely Eien. He needs to be put in a hole in the ground.

Remembering what Jake told me over the phone about Eien being here I pushed myself off the wall wiping my face. Going to my small sink I jerked the water on and splashed water on my face then dried it with a towel.

Banging on my cell door I waited, a few moments later the window slides open.

"Five thousand dollars if you let me have a few words with Eien Rowe," I told him. He cringed back from my tone.

"Uhhh. Let me see what I can do," he stuttered shutting the window quickly.

It took ten minutes for the door to slide open. The guard loosely put cuffs on my wrists and led me from my cell.

"I can't let you come in contact with him. I was given orders but I can let you talk to him."

I ground my teeth. The shiv I had hidden in my pants liner would be of no use now. I shook off that thought. Maybe that's for the best. I can't get more time for killing Eien, Ever would never forgive me for that. Clenching my fists I thought of her laying in a hospital bed possibly dying.

Opening a heavy iron door I was ushered into a room with a Plexiglas window between me and the other room. The guard removed my cuffs and shut the door behind me. Eien wasn't there yet. I started pacing in annoyance. It took three minutes before the door on the other side opened and Eien slide in on his side. I smirked seeing he had been roughed up quite a bit.

"Stand up you pathetic piece of shit," I growled.

Eien's head snapped up to look at me and he slowly stood looking down at the ground like he always did when I was talking to him.

"You are lucky that this wall is between us."

Eien said nothing just kept looking down.

"LOOK AT ME GOD DAMMIT!" I yelled punching the glass. He flinched and looked up at me.

  "WHY? Why her?!"

"She was in the way," he spoke in a mono tone voice.

"In the way! How the fuck was she in the way? You betrayed us! You ran off with Jason. I thought you didn't like him, but of course that was a lie."

  "It wasn't," he cut in.

"What?" I growled feeling my anger just roll off me.

"I hate Jason. He's a dumbass," Eien said looking me straight in the eye which pissed me off more. How dare he lie to me straight in the face.

"Oliver," he muttered. I was taken back for a moment. This wasn't the hard, bitter Eien I remember.

"Do you remember the first day we met?" he asked.

  "No
," I barked. What does this have to do with anything?

His emotionless expression waved for a moment.

  "I do."

"What of it, Eien? What does this have anything to do with you hurting, Ever?"

"It has everything to do with that bitch," he spat.

I punched the glass wall again shoving off of it.

"Don't you get it Oliver!" he yelled all facade of bitter anger gone.

  "I'm in love with you!"

I stopped and stared at him. My mind went blank.

  "You…what?"

"I love you," Eien muttered touching the glass.

Jerking back violently I felt like vomiting. I had never been opposed to gay relationships but never have I had a man tell me he loved me.

Pressing my back against the farthest wall it wasn't enough. I was repulsed against this.

"I...I'm not..." I grasped at a thought, at words I didn't know to say.

"I have been trying for so long to show you. I was happy with being in the back ground but then she showed up and ruined everything."

"You're fucking sick man!" Turning to the door I pounded on it. I had to get away from him. He was messed up in the head if he thought I ever thought of him that way. Pushing down vomit I pounded on the door.

"Please, give me a chance! She's gone now. She's out of the way."

I rounded on Eien. He looked pitiful. He was not the strong silent man I thought him to be. Now he looked foreign. I can honestly say I don't and never did know him.

"She's in the hospital. She's just fine and will be out soon. I have never and will NEVER want you. That is the sickest shit I have ever heard."

I could swear I heard his spirit break. I have never broken up with a girlfriend before but this was depressing to watch. I needed out. I pounded my fist harder on the door. Why wasn't anyone coming? Where they watching this shit and enjoying seeing me freaked out.

There was a grunt, turning back around I was horrified to see that Eien had a knife in his chest. Blood spilled out of his mouth and he sank to his knees. Letting his hands fall from the hilt to the glass he coughed spitting blood onto the glass.

"I'm sorry," Eien coughed then collapsed. He started convulsing. The door opened on his side and guards rushed in to help him, but it was already too late. His eyes were fixed on my face unblinking. He was dead.

  Tyler

"Hey guys," Kimmy spoke coming through the door.

"Hey Kimmy bear," Jet grinned from his wheel chair in the corner. He and Jake were playing rummy, Jake was losing as always. Jake grunted his hello concentrating on his cards. Kimmy pecked Jake on the cheek then gave Jet a hug before making her way to me.

"Where are Alex and Leon?" Jet asked as Kimmy sat next to me on the couch taking my ps3 away.

"Alex is hurting still. He wanted to come but his ribs still aren't healed yet and those crutches are killing him."

"I imagine," I muttered taking my game back and throwing my arm over her shoulders.

"Leon's hasn't woken up yet. I went to check on him. He's still breathing but I don't think he's slept since before Ever got in here."

"Yeah I don't think so. He only just went home last night. He's been worried about watching over Ever since Oliver's not here. He feels really guilty about it because it was his responsibility and she got hurt."

  Kimmy nodded.

"Where's Logan?" Kimmy wondered watching Jet fist pump and Jake sling his cards on the table for the seventh time this morning.

"Where do you think?" I laughed softly.

"Cafeteria," she sighed. "How can he eat so much and still stay so skinny? Actually why is he always hungry?"

"Growing boy? Or something?" I laughed.

"How is she? Any change?" Kimmy asked frowning looking to where Ever lay still not moving.

"Actually, last night her heart monitor thing jumped but she still hasn't moved. The doctor said she is doing a lot better. No infections. Yet anyways. I heard usually you get infections or something. He doesn't know why she hasn't woken up yet."

"Tyler...it's been four days. Is it normal for her not to wake up yet?"

"She got shot nine times, sweetheart," Jake broke in.

"Her body probably went into shock. She'll be awake soon," he reassured.

He had dark circles under his eyes. While all of us went home at night Jake hadn't. He's been here every second since we got out of jail. He said he wanted to protect her. From what I'm not sure. Jason is still in jail, Eien's dead. None of Jason's gang would dare try anything right now. Plus we had two of our gang guarding the door at all times.

But, I guess I understand it. She's part of our family. We all love her like our sister, even though at times she acts like our mother. Grinning I remembered the day she first showed up at the house. Her and that wooden spoon.

"So when is the trail date?" Kimmy asked looking at Jake and Jet.

"December 5th, a little over a month from now," Jake answered.

"GUYS!" Logan yelled sliding into the room. "Did you know it's Halloween?!" He asked with his hands full of candy.

  "Yes, we knew," Jake laughed.

"I totally forgot! People are passing out candy down stairs and I jacked some."

"Can I have that?" Kimmy reached out for a candy bar. Logan's face dropped. He looked down at his shirt full of candy and handed her a piece. I shook my head. He is such a little kid.

"I want some," Jet said laying down a hand.

Jake shoved his seat back cursing. "God Dammit, Jet. That's eight in row. You little cheat."

"You just noticed?" Jet grinned pulling out some cards from his lap. Jake stared dumbfounded for a moment.

"I need a smoke," Jake grunted.

"You don't smoke," Jet called out after him.

"Well I might start now dick wad," Jake flung his hands up as he shut the bathroom door behind him. We were all laughing at him. Jake had been in a pissy mood cause he hadn't really slept and Jet and Alex had been giving him a hard time. Logan threw in a jab every once in a while. It was amusing to watch.

There was a cough. Everyone's eyes snapped to the bed. Ever coughed again. Jumping up Kimmy pressed the nurse button and took Ever's hand.

Standing as well I looked over Kimmy's shoulder at Ever. Logan dropping all his candy to the floor scrabbled to the other side of the bed and Jet tried shoving the table out of his way to get over there too.

  "Ever?" Kimmy asked softly.

Ever's eyes twitched and she slowly opened them. Her usual bright green eyes were dull and exhausted. She blinked a few times because of the bright over head lights. Focusing her eyes she looked around. Her eyes scanned over all of our faces landing on Kimmy's.

Jake shoved the bathroom door open. "You know I," He froze.

Ever's eyes glanced over to him. She furrowed her eyebrows then she looked back at Kimmy. She still had yet to say anything.

A nurse burst into the room and Jet and Logan scrambled out of her way. Ever was still looking around confused.

"Miss Fox?" the nurse said. "My names Amy," the older woman took a light out and pointed it at Ever's eyes. She blinked and looked away annoyed.

"Do you know where you're at Miss Fox?"

Ever opened her mouth then shut it looking around. She opened again. "Hospital," she croaked out.

"Yes. Now do you remember anything?"

Ever stared at her. She blinked a few more times rapidly then looked over to Kimmy.

"Kimmy?" she asked in a confused voice.

"What's going on?" she muttered looking around at us again.

  "Who are all these people?"

A collective gasp left all of our mouths.

"Ever?" Kimmy took her hand again squeezing it.

"You don't know who the guys are? You don't remember?"

Ever's eyes met mine and no recognition registered on her face. My heart suddenly felt heavy. I looked over at the others they looked how I felt. devastated.

"Baby, what about Oliver? Do you remembe
r Oliver? Or the fighting? How about what happened at the house?"

Ever shook her head frustrated. "What? What are you talking about? Who's Oliver?"

Kimmy let out a sob and broke into tears.

"Kimmy?" Ever said freaked out. She started trying to sit up. The nurse tried to stop her. Ever jerked at the cords in her arms.

"What's going on? Where am I? What happened?" She demanded getting angrier and freaked out by the second. As she started fighting the nurse and kicking I stepped in to stop her from hurting herself.

"Ever, please," I begged for her to calm down. She stopped looking at me. It was long enough for the nurse to grab a syringe from a drawer and inject Ever's IV.

Ever looked shock but her eyes started drooping.

"Who are you?" she asked me as she fell asleep.
